Updating a revision converts HTML character entities

If I use the revision editor and update a revision (even just to change the schedule date), any HTML character entities, such as less-than and greater-than get converted to the actual character and saved.

< becomes <

It seems it is the editor doing this — it displays the characters converted in the editor. Editing pages using the normal interfaces does not do this.

Any workaround for this?

Thanks,

Jesse

I seems to remember looking for this with 1.0.7 and not reproducing the error. Anyway, I don't see it with Revisionary 1.1.RC2. Do you? If so, what WP version are you running? Any TinyMCE-related plugins?

Am using 1.0.7 with WP 2.9.2 and TinyMCE Advanced plugin.

I will try 1.1RC2. Are there known issues with using it with the TinyMCE Advanced plugin?

Ah, I see that 1.1RC2 requires WP 3.0…I can't upgrade at the moment, sorry

No known issues with TinyMCE Advanced at last check.

Hmm, I just took a stab at this on WP 2.9.1 with Revisionary 1.0.7 and TinyMCE Advanced 3.2.7. The lt and gt character entities were stored on update, and display as the character only in the Visual view.

Sorry to bring back this very old post, but I have finally upgraded to WP 3.2.1 and I am trying out the latest plugin (1.1.6) and I'm still seeing this issue.

If I edit a page that has character entities, save the pending revision, and then go to edit the pending revision, the editor shows the characters rendered and not the HTML source version. I have disabled the Tiny MCE plugin and am only using the HTML editor, not the visual editor.

Good examples:

™ for the trademark symbol

> for greater than symbol

Before I edit the page I see "™" in the content and after saving a revision as mentioned and then editing the revision, I see the TM symbol instead in the HTML editor, which is not what one wants :)

Update:

I was poking around some more and noticed two things.

1. I have the visual editor disabled in my profile (try testing it this way)

2. If I enable the visual editor, the editor displays the charcters correctly in the HTML tab on the first display. But if I click on the Visual tab and then go back to the HTML tab, the characters are now displayed rendered (TM instead of ™)

Thanks,

Jesse

Thanks for the report. This is now fixed in the updated Revisionary development code.

The confirmed bug fix is for the behavior with Visual Editor turned off. I didn't see any problem when switching from Visual to HTML.

Awesome, thanks! Yeah, I think what I'm seeing with character entities and switching between Visual and HTML is unrelated to your plugin. I see it with the latest Wordpress even with the plugin disabled.
