I'm curious whether Role Scoper can do what I need it to do.

I have a blog and need to be able to have my posts visible to different groups of people. I am the only author of the blog; I am strictly needing to set boundaries for readers and commenters.

1.) just regular posts to standard blog readers, no login necessary - I know it can do this

2.) some posts visible to group A only, some to B, some to C (with some crossover of a few members) - I think I understand how this works as well by assigning each member to the groups

3.) what I would like to know is if there is a way to set RS up so that my blog will automagically assign the readers to the approptiate post based on the category I assing that particular post. 

For example: can I assign Group A to be able to automatigically be able to read and comment on all posts in Category A, thereby making all posts in Category A private? If this is possible how do I set this?

Also a feature request: to have all posts set by RS as Private to automatically be marked as Private by WP if RS ever gets deactivated or breaks for any reason.

This is a longstanding feature request, but one with technical and logistical complications I have not yet worked through.
