Well, I wanted to give it a try, so just installed the plugin, but I'm totally lost with how to use it, despite reading the instructions. Can I hire someone here to help me do this?

I don't know if I need to do anything about the previous limit cat and roles other than deactivating the limit cat plugin.

Yes, I'm available to diagnose / correct Role Scoper configurations.  It usually takes 45-90 minutes (or perhaps a bit longer if other plugin / theme code is involved).  I've e-mailed Susan to discuss this.
