500 Internal Server Error on Registration Page

After installing RS, when I try to go to /wp-login.php?action=register, I end up with tons of issues.

1.  If I end up putting in a username/email that has been used before, I get the standard:

ERROR: This username is already registered, please choose another one.
ERROR: This email is already registered, please choose another one.

However, if I successfully put in a new username/email - I end up with a 500 error:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

The strange thing is that the user I created ends up in the database, but no email goes out and of course I am at this 500 page.  Any ideas?

You may just be running out of PHP memory. Experiment by temporarily disabling other plugins or increasing your PHP memory limit.
