I'm trying to make pages that are accessible to only a certain group.  On the page edit screen I make my group (call them group1) a reader by checking "Restrict for Page" and "Restrict for Sub-Pages (this entire tree will be restricted to group1)", then check the 2 boxes next to group1 in the Groups box to restrict this page and to propagate to sub-pages.

Now I log into the site as a user that belongs to group1, I see a 404.

When I then go into the page editor for my restricted page, switch to the users tab, select my "group1″ user and update, I can see the page when logged into my group1 user.

Shouldn't that page be accessible by group1user by selecting the group1 group to have access?  Do I have to select each individual user every time a new user is created on the site?

TIA.

I'm not seeing this. Are you sure the user is a member of that group? Does the group membership show if in the "Edit Users" form for that user?

I must have had a corrupt install or something, I did a fresh install after seeing your response and permissions seem to be working.  Now to find a way to do is_user_in_role($current_user, "rolename").

If you are just concerned about site-wide roles, look at $current_user->assigned_blog_roles.
