Almost there, but need some role help

This is a great plugin.  Thanks Kevin for the hard work.

I think I have my club’s site almost set, but I am having trouble with a role.  Let me describe what I am trying to do to “set the stage”.  I am also using NextGEN Gallery and TinyMCE, which play into the situation.

My site will eventually have subscribers and non-subscribers.  Subscribers will be able to read all content except for private posts/pages

  • Non-Subscribers (have not paid club dues)

            Read some pages

            Read some posts

  • Subscribers (have paid club dues)

            WP Subscribers
Read all posts/pages except for private posts/pages
            SCG Authors
Same as WP Subscribers + create/edit their own posts; cannot create pages
            SCG Managers
Same as SCG Authors + create/edit pages + read/create/edit private posts/pages + change roles of Non-Subscribers to one of the Subscriber roles (WP Subscribers, SCG Authors, or SCG Managers)

I think I have the subscribers and non-subscribers set to “flick a switch” in the future after we decide to cut-off non-paying members from reading the club information.  The SCG Authors seems to be set right.  The challenge is the SCG Managers group.  The users in this group are in the Wordpress group of Editor because I do not want them changing all the settings on the site (Role Scoper posts/pages, NextGEN options, and TinyMCE settings) and they are not necessarily technical.  So, how do I set up the SCG Managers group to meet the above requirements and not allow them to see/change other settings?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm afraid you'll have to find another plugin (in theory) to contribute that last piece, or hire out some custom development. Role Scoper cannot currently enable someone to edit a limited subset of other users. That would be a nice feature, but I have no plans to develop it in the near future.

Thanks Kevin.  I found a solution myself.  I can use Role Manager in combination with Role Scoper to achieve this effect.

Okay, as long as you're aware that giving someone the edit_users capability would also allow them to demote the role of any user, including your current WP Subscribers, SCG Authors and other SCG Managers…. unless I'm missing something.
