Contributor posting problem

My setup was working as intended until yesterday morning.

Suddenly individuals set as contributors in a group with a section role attached to a category can post and submit for review but all posts are then assigned to Category 1 and Author 1.

Groups set as editors for the categories do not appear to be having this issue.

The change seemed to be sudden and I have removed everything that changed on the site around the time that the problem started to happen.  We had been running with only minor issues for a couple of weeks leading up to this.

We are using Role Manager along with Role Scoper but we have been doing this from the beginning.

There are 300 contributors on this site and there is a lot of confusion because of this…

Any idea what might cause this to happen?

Lately I've seen one or two cases where large numbers of contributors cause a corruption of Role Scoper's internal file cache.  Please try disabling it via Role Scoper Options and let me know.

If problems continue I will be glad to further troubleshoot your installation.

After a lot of digging I found a few things…

1. there was a problem in the database in the wp_user2role2object_rs table. A couple of groups had entries with 0 for users I removed the group's section roles and then put them back, which seems to have taken care of one problem. Posts are no longer being assigned to the default author.

2. I already had the RS cacheing turned off so I don't see that this was the issue.

3. I changed the default category and tested again. The posts went to the new default category so it's definately related to that setting somehow.

4. I did disable the plugin and I was able to save a post as a contributor to the category I selected.

5. Once I gave contributors access to the default category I was able to save a post, reselect categories, then resave with the correct category selections. It seems to be related to the initial save process.

My temporary work around is to give editors and contributors to the default category but this has implications for the editors who rely on recieving an email notification when a post is submitted for review in the category they manage. It's not realistic to expect the contributors, who are not terribly savvy, to save, select categories, and save again.

I have disabled the WP autosave function because it was causing problems when posting in IE.

If you have any ideas or would like to look at my install(it's a complex one) let me know.

Are you saying that you want the Contributors' posts to default to a category which is unavailable for manual selection because they don't have a contributor role for it?

What is the difference, configuration-wise, between the desired default category and the alternate default category (which worked in point 3 of your last post)?  What Exclusive Section Role settings and/or Section Role assignments are in place for either of those categories?

I determined that one of my plugins was causing the unwanted behavior. What was happening was that ALL posts were ending up in the default category regardless of which category was selected. I will report back when I determine which plugin was the cause, I've not gotten that far..yet. But I do know that deactivating all plugins resolved the problem.

I'm having the same problem in my installation.(WP 2.6, Role Scoper 0.9.27, Role Manager 2.2.3)

I have several categories and groups of users that have Editor role for their category. Only the administrator group has the 'Category Manager' role for all of them.

When an editor writes a post and saves it or publishes it, the author is changed to the administrator user.

I've flushed and disabled the Role Scoper cache, but the problem is still there.

I can't see what should I touch in the wp_user2role2object_rs table, if that's the case.

Have you found a solution or which is the offending plugin, if any?

Thank you for your great work and regards,

Francisco
