Deactivating Role Scoper blocks access to uploads folder

This has happened twice already.

The first time was when we upgraded to WP 2.8. None of the content inside the uploads folder would show up on the site. When I checked settings and stuff, I saw that the Role Scoper hadn't been automatically reactivated after the automatic upgrade. Once it was activated, content from wp-content/uploads appeared again.

Just this morning, I upgraded to the latest version of Role Scoper. Again, it wasn't automatically reactivated, and again, content inside the uploads folder did not appear on the site. Again, reactivating fixed this.

How is our uploads folder linked to Role Scoper? What can we do to prevent this from happening again?

Role Scoper adds an .htaccess entry to protect your uploaded files. Without that, attached files are always available via direct file URL regardless of how you've restricted the post/page which they're attached to. Role Scoper's attachment filtering is applied automatically without any further configuration on your part.

What can we do to prevent this from happening again?

You can cooperate with me in diagnosing the error on your site if I'm not able to duplicate it on mine.

Plugin reactivation following auto-update is now fixed with Role Scoper 1.0.6. I'm sorry I got kinda grouchy about this, but thanks for reporting it.
