I've made a post on Wordpress forums: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/role-scoper-basic-restriction-issues, so I'll copy from that because I think it's getting lost amongst the other plugins…

In most basic terms I want complete restricted access, with specific access for role groups. So what I've done is I've set all the restrictions (page, posts, and categories) to restricted. Then I defined the categories and page restrictions to work for my particular group (the WP role is Subscriber). When I log in as that user, I do not see the category listed on the category widget, and nothing is showing up on the main blog (nothing found). Also, I am allowed to create a new post but after I submit it there's an error saying I don't have permissions to edit it. What am I doing wrong? Do I have too much restriction? Anything I need to check?

Can anyone give me a step by step (it shouldn't take long).
