Help defining roles/restrictions

First, thank you for this plugin.  It is very apparent that you spent many hours on this.  It's very deep and I can't for the life of me figure it ALL out, at least not in just an hour or 4.

Normal roles for WP will be sufficient with my setup - for the most part.

I do have a few instances in which I need to tweak.  I have a WP site where there will be many people in charge of specific content.  What I am looking to do:

  1. Have a "News" user that can log in and Write/Manage Posts to all categories.
  2. Have a "Special Editor" edit a specific page (I've been able to do this), but also Write/Mange Posts to a specific category (I haven't been able to do this).

Can someone help me with which options under Roles/Restrictions for a user that I need to check in order to achieve this? I'm getting confused what I need to check and uncheck in the Roles and Restrictions.

Thanks!

Dan

The cleanest configuration is probably:

  • Set Default Category Restrictions on the Post Contributor, Post Author and Post Editor roles (see top table in Restrictions > Category).
  • No users will be able to post/edit in any category until you give them a Category Role for it

Over the last week I've been pushing hard to get another release candidate out, and need to stay focused on that for another day to pull it off cleanly without further delay. If you need further description right away, see the Usage Guide.

Thanks everyone for your patience. I think you'll find it paying off soon.

I should have a bit more time starting next Monday to talk this over more if you're still having trouble.

Thanks Kevin! I hadn't had a chance to implement what you suggested yet. I was working on some other aspects of the site.  I will look it over this weekend and post back if I'm still confused.
