A combination of your last 2 posts were the trick.

1. Loaded the plug-in Capability Manager

2. Created a role of "Teacher" with the capabilities I wanted to allow

3. Removed all post restrictions (Restrictions > Posts)

4. Restrictions > Categories = Restricted for all post Contributors, Authors, Editors, Category Managers

5. Roles > Options > RS Role Defs = Synced all

6. Roles > Category Roles = assigned groups by category, then assigned Ms. Counts "Editor" role for all the other math teacher's categories

When I deploy the site I will create a user's manual for the future site admin.  I will gladly send you the portion applying to Role Scoper which you can use as an updated manual for the next newbie that comes along
