Hi Kevin,

Using WP 2.9.2 and RS 1.1.7 - I just switched themes to notice that the Recent  Comments standard WP widget does not seem to filter appropriately. The widget shows the author, post title and link to post for all the most recent comments, even if the reader cannot actually follow the links and see the posts (or the comments) since RS is hiding them.

I was previosuly using Mystique which has some recent comment feature built into a tabbed widget, and this worked fine with RS, nothing was displayed that the user could not ultimately read.

Thanks

I'm not seeing this. How are your posts hidden? (Private visibility, Post/Category restrictions, etc.). Are you using a Hidden Content Teaser?

Hi Kevin,

My users are just subscribers, and I restrict access to certain categories. All categories are restricted bar one which can be read freely (I set the blog up in this way before you created an anonymous user group capability). The users are split into Groups and category read access is assigned on a Group basis. All posts are regular posts. I am not aware that I am using a hidden content teaser. I have seen this on a couple of blogs, the theme I use on all of them is Tarski 2.6.

Just to clasriufy (sometimes I don't make myself clear) all content is actually hidden correctly, but there is a listing in the recent comments widget even for not logged in users.

Thanks

This is fixed in the updated Role Scoper development snapshot.

Hi Kevin,

I tried 1.1.8-DevC and it gave me some problems. I got a lot of "unable to write log file!" messages across the top of the blog and also in (or underneath) the recent comment widget on the blog front. There were no links to recent comments (anonymous user). When I logged in as admin the comments appeared as you might expect, but the "unable to write to log" messages still there. In the dashobard these messages also appear across the top, and the admin pages seem incomplete, with no footer.

Thanks

Can you temporarily put define('WP_DEBUG', true); in your wp-config.php and let me know if there are any specific error messages? I'm not seeing anything of those errors on this end.

If that isn't informative, put an echo($query); near the bottom of function flt_recent_comments in role-scoper/hardway/hardway-front_rs.php. Then post that diagnostic output here so I can see if anything is going wrong with your query filtering.

Hi Kevin,

I had gone back to RS 1.1.7, and now forwards again to 1.1.8devC to do the things you suggest. But now the problem has gone…sort of. All the error messages are not displaying anymore and the front page is fine. In the dashboard I don't see the errors, but for the dashboard only I don't get a footer generated. Lotsof other admin pages seem fine. I have a recent comments widget on the dashboard, not sure if that's significant, but also my "screen options" doesn't work on the dashboard page (I guess the page is just not generating properly) so I can't see how to get rid of the recent comments dashboard widget to investigate further.

Hi Kevin,

I tried RS1.1.8devC on a different blog, and it seems fine, so I think I might have some other problem on the one blog, maybe a conflict or something like that, anyway, I'll do some more investigations, and if it looks likeit might be RS related I'll let you know.

Thank

YikYak

It sounds like an out-of-memory error on the one server prevents those pages from being fully generated.
