I need help on setting up Role Scoper to work with Wordpress and aMember pls !!

I`m using the side bar amember widget so users cand log in after they subscribe. I`ve tried to make a new group, named [Wp premium], did exactly like it says in the user guide, but the users still can`t see or read the private post or even see the category !!

Is the problem only with aMember activated?  I'm downloading their trial to check it out.

Can you please say a little more about how you've configured your posts / categories?

Ok,

aMember is integrated into wordpress, it`s a amember plugin that can do that, that means when someone subscribes(registers), he/she automatic becomes a wordpress user. I`m not using the registration form porvided by wordpress, it`s the aMember registration form that does that.

I`ve did just like the Role Scoper Usage Guide - Section 2.

———-

Defining a custom User Group (not required for direct user role assignment)

  1. Go to WP Admin -> Groups

  2. Click the “Add New” scroll link

  3. Enter a group name and description

  4. Select checkboxes for Group Members

  5. Optionally, select Group Administrators (WP admin can always manage group)

  6. Click the Create button

——–

My group, Wp premium within it the members. Then, in the Blog Roles section, i`ve assigned to this group the following roles: Post Read, Prive post read, for the posts and pages. After, in the Section Roles, I`ve assigned to this group the following rols for the Premium categorie witch i created: Post reader and Private post reader.

——-

Granting Read Access to an Individual Post/Page

  1. Decide whether you want to manage permissions user-by-user, for Wordpress role “groups”, and/or for custom-defined User Groups.  If custom user groups are desired, define those first (see above).

  2. Enter the WordPress Write Post / Edit Post interface

  3. Scroll down to the “Readers” tab (under “Advanced Options”) and expand it

  4. Select the checkbox of any User and/or Group who should have read access

  5. Save the Post

——-

Now, i`ve written a new post in the Premium categorie, expanded the readers tab and checked the box for the Premium group, saved the post and publish it.

But the users from that group still can`t see the post or categorie Frown. I really hope that you can help me with this problem, because i`ve search every where for this kind of plugins and read that this is the best and it`s got everything i need. Didn`t  expect to be so hard to configure it Smile.

I`m using Wordpress 2.5.1 if that`s going to help.

I downloaded the aMember trial, but it looks like more installation and configuration that i want to deal with.  I think it would be more productive for you to e-mail me an Administrator login to your server so I can look at your configuration and possibly run some diagnostic code.

I would appreciate if you can install Role Scoper 0.9.23 first.  Your issues may also stem from the server-specific issues I tracked down and cited in the recent release notes.

Hi Kevin,

I am also using aMember also and trying to understand how to use this with Role Scoper and WordPress 2.6. Did you all connect up and figure out the solution of the integration? I would be very interested in the suggested way to do this.

Thanks!

No, I never heard back from colorblind and I've been dragging my feet on installing the amember trial on my test server.  It sounds like something I need to be familiar with, so I'll work through it soon.

Hi Kevin - let me know if I can be of help. May I suggest that you connect up with David at Membership Academy (http://www.membershipacademy.com/). He is very good with aMember and in fact we will be trying to do the integration this morning. As you know I am trying to use WordPress with the WPRemix Themes possibly the Revolution Themes, with aMember driving the users tied to Role User Levels to deliver granted access - rather than having all users as WordPress members. Hope this is possible with Role Scoper.

Thanks again

Arnold

Kevin - BTW - it takes a little bit more than just installing it because you need to have aMember plus WordPress plugin - that you have to buy - unless you can get Alex at aMember to work with you. David has created a WP Sidebar Widget that logs into aMember. Also note that aMember has plugin that allow single login to other products like Kayako Support Suite, vBulletin, a bunch of shopping carts …

FYI — thanks again — Arnold

Sorry for not answering but i`ve been busy setting up my new website. Ok, well, about the aMember problem, i`ve backed out because i couldn`t figure it out how to propley integrate aMember with Wordpress. The trial that they give you, has all the plugins for blogs, forums, etc. I`ve done exactly like the tutorial that is on their site, but with no success. I even installed the aMember Wordpress Widget, but even so users whore not transferd to Wordpress. I`ve googled it but couldn`t find a proper, step-by-step integretion… Oh, and ArnoldYoung, about Membershipacademy, I sincerely don`t have the money to buy one of their premium accounts to access the premium tutorials :(. So, unless someone finds a good tutorial on this, I just have to let this one pass… yet, I`m still looking forward on solving this problem, cause if I intend to buy the aMember Pro I want to test it the full 30-day trial to see how it stands out.

Thanks Kevin and ArnoldYoung for your help; hope we can find a solution to this, cause Role Scoper fits best with this two.

I helped Arnold get this working with his aMember installation; it was just a configuration issue.

  • use Role Manager to create custom roles, all with no capabilities except “read”.
  • tell aMember which users to associate with each role.
  • for each Page which should be editable by one of these roles, go into Edit Page and
  1. expand Editors tab
  2. select Groups view
  3. check [] and {[]} for the group corresponding to the desired users ( {[]} assigns role for all child pages )
  4. save the page

Post access control can also be done for individual posts via Edit Post form, but Section Roles will be more convenient (category-based role assignment).  See the Usage Guide for more details and examples.

Arnold was not able to expose private pages for editing by these users, but I suspect that is a conflict with his theme, WP Remix.  If you are using WP Remix, check the comments on “Role Scoper Overview” for a Role Scoper patch that resolves another conflict with that theme.  That change will be included in the next RS revision.

Actually, the trouble with private page listings probably had nothing to do with WP Remix.  Apply this Role Scoper code patch, or wait for a fix in the upcoming version 0.9.28
