RS Editor / WP Author must click twice to publish

Hi, I'm using RS 9.9216 with WP 2.7.

I have about 30 users set up as WP-Authors and they are assigned as RS-Editors to specific categories. The categories are restricted by default, except for the role "post reader".

The goal is to have category editors able to publish their articles in their own category only, and to manage contributors who can only submit articles for review.

This setup seems to work fine except for a few users with the WP-Author/RS-Editor combination who for some reason cannot publish stories on the first try.

These few users, when they try to publish a post in their assigned category, send the article into "Pending". If they then go back to the article list, click on "edit" to edit the story that is pending, they can then publish it.

Could this be a bug, or something wrong with the way I've set things up?

It could be a bug, but I don't have any suspects right now. I'd like to revisit this if and when you see it with rc9.9303 or later.

OK, I've updated to rc9.9309. Now, every user with the combination of WP-Contributor or WP-Author and RS-Editor has to click "publish" twice in order to publish an article. The first click on "publish" sends the article into "pending review".

Is it possible I simply have set things up improprerly, or have checked/unchecked something incorrectly?

Thanks for any help.

Tried something new …. I set up an identical test site to the above. Deactivated all plugins, including RS, and deleted all the RS files. Deleted the RS tables. Re-uploaded the latest RS files (RC 9.9309). Activated RS, but did not activate any other plugin. Restricted all categories by default except "post reader". Set up one user who is a WP-Author as an RS Editor for one specific category. Logged in as that user, created a new post, assigned it to the one category he has rights to publish, and the story went to "pending review". A second click on "publish" allowed him to publish the story.

The only thing I can think of that might be causing the issue is that I do not use the default "wp_" for table prefix names (for security reasons). Is there something in the RS code that relies on that prefix?

If not then the next step, I suppose, is wiping the user accounts and starting from scratch.

Good thought, but I think that complication is covered already.

Don't do that just yet. I'm looking into the issue right now.

Are you/they using IE7?

Never mind. I just reproduced it using Firefox and should have a fix soon.

Can you confirm that this is fixed in the current Role Scoper version (rc9.9310)?

Yes the bug seems to be fixed now with 9.9310 installed … no issues reported from 40+ contributors in the last few days. Many thanks!

But now I see there's another new RC ? I'll install it on my test platform. thanks again

I know this is a very old post but I am experiencing this exact same issue with a handful of my role groups.  I've looked through all permissions and roles and see nothing different about these few groups.  Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

This is fixed (for page publishing based on propagated Page Role) in the updated Role Scoper development code (1.3.40-dev):

  • BugFix : When Page Editor and Author roles are Restricted by default, new pages saved by non-Administrator set to "Pending Review" on first Publish attempt
  • BugFix : When all Page editing roles are Restricted by default, new pages are not editable by non-Administrator creator
