My user XY has WP role CONTRIBUTOR. Under Roles - Categories, user XY is Post Editor in Category C1. During publishing he can publish in Category C1 and sub-categories. — till now correct

At the moment of adding him rights for Page P1 (Roles - General - Page Editor and Roles - Pages - Page Editor for Page and sub-pages  P1) he can publish new pages under P1 but he can also publish articles in all categories.

What is wrong in this settings - during adding page he is getting rights for all categories.

Thanks a lot for help.

That bug is fixed in development/beta/RC versions from 1.2.8.RC, and in today's stable version releases (1.2.9 and 1.3):

* BugFix : Post submission categories not filtered when user had category-specific Post Editor role but a General Role of Page Author / Editor (since 1.2)

Hi Kevin, thanks for the answer. Is it possible to keep settings for user during upgrade of version or everything needs to be set. I tried it yesterday on my pc, old version was removed and new version not installed.Today it works with old settings and new functionality.

It would be great, if you can publish this information in FAQ - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/role-scoper/changelog/.

Thanks.

Version upgrades never change or delete DB-stored Role Scoper settings and options, except in rare cases where the data storage structure of an option needs to change. Version 1.3 does change the default setting for Roles > Options > Advanced > User Profile > "Display User Groups" and "Display User Roles" to disabled. But if you saved Roles > Options by clicking the Update button, those settings were not changed by the version update.

What specific settings do you see as changed?

What process did you use to change versions?

Thanks for the answer. Yesterday I clicked on Upgrade message  in Wordpress - Plugins. Plugin was removed but the new not installed (he had some rests from old version). Today I was able to install the new version and settings were correct.

On my second PC I tried to do it by replacing folder Role Scoper in wp-content.  Upgrade automatically was not possible as the machin is not in the Internet.

What is your experience to do it best? During replacing should I deactivate the plugin in Wordpress?

The officially supported method is deactivation of the old version, then reactivation of the new. That can be done automatically with the WP plugin updater or manually. However, Role Scoper will detect a version change and perform various maintenance operations even if you just overwrite the files without de/re-activating. Neither approach causes settings to be deleted.

I would still be interested in hearing exactly what settings you saw change following a version update.

By the way, I did just test the plugin auto-update on two sites - one public and one on my localhost. Both worked and reactivated the new version. Can you auto-upgrade other plugins on the site in question? If RS re-activation failure is repeatable, I'd be interested in diagnosing it.

Allready finished upgrade to 1.3.1 by manually replacing the files and it works.

My settings - I have more user, everyone has his area to edit. I was afraid to loosing groups, user or settings in roles - Options (e.g. only admin can set Top Level, or each role is able to upload files.)

For me the change - restrict categories and allow only 1 page is really helpful.

Autoupdate yesterday : 1. Wordpress - Plugin, Deactivate, Automatically upgrade. I had message that the old version was removed but the new can not be installed. After that I took the version from Wordpress Plugin Site and wanted to extract to wp-content/plugins. Not possible as he had old files there and was not able to rewrite them. I shutted down with the Hope that today I can delete the rest of files and extract the new version. And it was working …

Can I have 1 more question - user is WP-contributor, but need only to publish pages (Roles - General - add to Page Editor, Roles - Pages - add for specific page). Is it possible to restrict him writing articles? Doing it by changing WP Role to Subscriber he gets message on 1 extra page.
